Frequently Asked Questions
Current Cal Students:
Are there try-outs?
Nope! CalFS webcomes skaters of all levels to join us, as we believe that every skater is a valuable contributor to the team. USFSA, however, limits 3 members per team to compete at each event. If we have too many skaters in an event, we may have to be selective about who we send to compete.
How much does it all cost?
Our dues are $35 per semester. An RSF membership is required, and it is $10 per semester. If you're competing, there may be extra costs for entry fees, transportation, etc.
How do you hold practices?
Our practice routine changes from year to year. In the past, we have had practice ice on Wednesday evenings. We currently don't have a coach, so members simply help one another. In general, our skaters practice individually at their preferred rinks.
How much of a commitment is this?
If you're a recreational member, all you need to do is come to our Skate Nights, learn how to skate, and have fun!
If you're a competitive member, CalFS is a full-year commitment that includes, but does not restrict to, the following:
- Team meetings
- Participation in team events (such as fundraisers, exhibitions)
- Competitions (regional and national)
Yes! I want to join! What should I do?
Contact our officers to get more information, set up a meeting, or get on our mailing list. You may also check our calendar to find upcoming events to meet the team. To be able to compete, you'll need an RSF membership and you'll need to be a full-time student.
